Only Murders In The Building spoilers ahead.
Selena Gomez's kiss with Cara Delevingne on the hit Hulu and Disney+ show, Only Murders in the Building, has been dubbed as the "perfect end to Pride Month" by fans.
In season two of Only Murders in the Building, which just launched on Disney+, model Cara plays Alice, an art dealer and gallery owner who unobtrusively but purposefully enters the life of Selena's character Mabel, and (spoiler alert) the two go to become more than good friends.
The two get to know each other, date and make out in a scene that has now gone viral on social media, with many viewers praising the mainstream LGBTQIA representation on television.
"Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne making out on Only Murders in the Building while a Billie Eilish song plays, all during Pride Month. They really said GAY RIGHTS!" one person tweeted, with another writing: "Cara and selena making out happy pride!"
“Cara Delevingne and Selena Gomez making out is not something I thought I needed but I am so glad I have it now AND DURING PRIDE MONTH,” said a fan of the show, while an emphatic viewer added: "SELENA AND CARA KISSING??!!! JAW . F***ING . DROPPED . I LOVE TO SEE THIS REPRESENTATION!!! #onlyMudersInTheBuilding."
Speaking of filming for the scene, Cara told PEOPLE: "It was just fun. Would anyone in the world not like to kiss Selena?"
Selena and Cara, both 29, met when they were 15, and have developed a close friendship over the years, and it was their bond that made the moment "hysterical". In 2014, the best friends starred in Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video, and they took their friendship to the next level by getting matching rose tattoos in December last year.
"It's just one of those things, especially when you know someone so well, it's the comfortability and you kind of have fun with it," the British catwalk queen added to the publication.
Cara, who describes herself as genderfluid and pansexual, also spoke to GLAMOUR recently about Alice and Mabel's relationship, and any negative attention the kissing scene may receive.
"I don't really have to talk to the haters. I don't waste energy on that anymore. Let them think what they want – they'll be on the wrong side of history. I didn't think beforehand about how the kiss between us might go down with the viewers."
Cara thinks the story behind her character Alice and the rest of the cast of the murder-mystery series on Disney+ is much more important: "Audiences will be surprised by the storylines overall – not just Mabel and I kissing. They'll be perplexed by how mysterious my character Alice really is."
Meanwhile, showrunner John Hoffman told The Hollywood Reporter of the show’s LGBTQIA+ representation in season two: "Opening up any storylines into interesting new perspectives, characters exploring themselves and finding great connections in unexpected places, that’s what the show is about."
Selena, who recently spoke of gaining confidence when she stopped conforming to society's unrealistic beauty expectations, also stars alongside Steve Martin, Martin Short as the trio of neighbours bonded by their obsession with true crime.
The first season, set in New York’s Upper West, chronicled the story of three neighbours (Gomez, Martin and Short) who did not know each other but were in the same elevator as the victim just before he was killed, bond over their love of true crime and team up to solve the murder.
The second season follows the trio as they attempt to get to the bottom of the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger.
Only Murders in the Building season two is available to watch on Disney+.
